Equipment
I have an older bike / gravel bike / bike without “clip in” pedals, can i still ride with CCC?
Of course. Clip in pedals allow you to ride slightly faster so our social ride will probably be the most suitable for you.
I am new to cycling and don’t have a head unit to download the route can I still ride?
Yes of course, there will be plenty of CCC regulars who will have uploaded the route. We would advise you take a screen shot of the route just in case there is a split, but we do try to ride together.
I don’t have a Cycling Helmet, can I ride with CCC?
No, you cannot ride without a cycling helmet. We insist that every rider wears a cycling helmet whilst riding on all official CCC rides. No helmet = no ride, no exceptions.
Do I need front and rear lights to ride with CCC?
We strongly advise that you attach suitable lights to your bike as it helps riders see and be seen, particularly in poor weather, dawn and dusk, but this is an individual choice.
It is raining, do I need to have mudguards on my bike?
We would very much prefer all bikes to be fitted with mudguards when the roads are wet or we are expecting rain, however ultimately this is down to the individual.
What other equipment should I bring on a ride?
We would suggest you bring a water bottle and suitable snacks. You should also bring some basic bike maintenance equipment such as spare inner tubes, multi tool and tyre leavers.
Do I need to be able to fix a puncture?
Ideally yes, however on a group ride, teamwork is key so your fellow riders are sure to lend a hand to ensure we all get moving again as quickly as possible.
I have an E-bike. Can I ride with Chorley Cycling Club?
Chorley Cycling Club is primarily focused on pedal power, however if you are using an e-bike to build up your fitness to transition to pedal power or returning from an injury, then yes you may ride an e-bike in our social rides. Please inform your rider leader.
Organised Rides & Events
Where do you post your organised rides?
All of our rides are posted in the events page on our club website. Please check the ride link the day before to make sure you have the most accurate version.
Do CCC official rides happen when the weather is not good.
We try and offer rides throughout the year, however occasionally a ride may be called off due to inclement weather. This would typically be snow, ice or very heavy winds.
Do all CCC rides include a cafe stop?
All weekend rides include a cafe stop. It is the best part of the ride. Midweek rides typically do not, but usually end up with a chilled refreshment at The Euxton Mills.
What about other one-off events you organise, how will I be kept informed?
When you join CCC you will be invited to our private group Facebook page and Spond messenger app where you will find all the relevant information.
How do CCC members communicate with each other?
When you join CCC via British Cycling, you will be invited to join our private Facebook Group and Spond chat, where members create events, add to posts and message each other about rides.
I am interested in Racing with Chorley Cycling Club, what should I do?
Chorley Cycling Club has an active racing team. We encourage you to join their dedicated Spond channel where you will be given lots more information.
